If you have some old mismatched teacups, or come across some at a garage sale, they make great planters for small plants, like herbs.
Place a few bits of gravel in the bottom of the cup, before you add the dirt, for drainage.
Old spoons, with decorative designs, can be used as markers to let you know what was planted in each cup.
