You can make these cute self-watering planters, and use them to grow plants or even your own herbs.
For each planter, you’ll need a wine glass and a regular glass, some string, dirt, plants or seeds, and a glass cutter. I buy wine glasses for a dollar each at a local discount house (Old Time Pottery).
You simply cut the stem of the wine glass, near the bottom. Run a few strings from inside the wine glass to the outside of the cut off stem. Fill your water glass part way with water. Fill the cup of the wine glass with dirt and your plant or seeds.
The string will wick the water up to the dirt, providing water for the plants for several days. It may take a few days for the wicking to fully work, so be sure to water the plants from the top until you see damp soil.
