Earth Friendly Green Home

As someone who is very proud to live a green life, you are probably trying to find everything you can about making your family’s life more beneficial for the environment. One of the best ways you can do this is by incorporating more green ideas into your actual house. While it may be a bit expensive at first, it not only protects the environment, but saves you money and increases the value of your house. If you would like to learn a little more about making your house greener, look below to see some great hints and ideas that will help make your house more eco friendly.

Energy Star Appliances

Even though many of us do not think about it our appliances use up a large percentage of our electricity and water usage.  For this reason, it is always best to get rid of older appliances, even if it may cost you a bit more money up front.  By moving to energy star appliances with a high rating, you are cutting down your overall monthly bills by using less electricity and water.  As well, by using less natural resources and water, you are saving valuable limited resources.

Controlled Heat and Cooling

Even though having heat and air in houses may seem like a blessing, it can sometimes be a curse for those who are more Earth conscious.  Instead of turning up the heat when it’s cold outside, use more blankets or sweaters.  As with Energy Star appliances, you are going to cut down your monthly bills, and the use of natural resources guarantees that you aren’t wasting heat in your home.

The same is true for air conditioning.  Keep your house a little warmer in the summer time.  If you can, use individual air conditioning units in each room and only turn on those units when you are in that certain room.  Also, don’t forget to turn up the air conditioner if you will be leaving your house, to make sure you are not wasting valuable resources.

It’s also possible that in your area, your electric company will install a programmable thermostat for you, which will allow you to turn down the heating or cooling when you are away from home, or while you sleep.

Solar Power

Instead of using fossil fuels in the form of electricity, why not consider installing some solar panels in your home?  Not only are they free electricity, but do not require the burning of fossil fuels.  As well, they increase the overall value of your home.  When installing solar panels, make sure you get a professional estimate first to makes sure you are installing panels on the right side of your home and that you have the right amount of panels.  Since you can use solar power on just about everything, why not use it in your home?

 Worm Composting

Even though many people do not realize it, they throw away trash everyday that could be recycled in their very own home.  By keeping a worm composting unit in your own home, you can turn your organic waste into rich soil that can be reused in your household plants or garden.  Also, the finished product from the worm composting system is a cheap alternative to using different chemical fertilizers to help your plants grow.  With this fun and educational system, your family can be more earth friendly with very little effort.

Going green is one of the best things you can do in your life.  We don’t realize just how much harm we are doing to the environment until we start changing our life and learning about all the damage we have done to the Earth.  One way you can help the environment is by incorporating many new green ideas into your house.  While they may seem expensive at first, they will save you money in the long run and help make the world a better place.
